Project Linus is a non-profit charity with the mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth, and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or in any need.

"Blanketeers" provide  new warm and washable handmade quilts, blankets, or afghans for children from 0-18. All sizes and styles are needed from receiving blankets to full-sized quilts.

Lakeshore Sewing is pleased to serve as a local drop-off point for Project Linus quilts and blankets.

Project Linus is also partnering with Avlyn Fabrics, HandiQuilter, The Warm Company, Superior Threads and Love of Quilting to announce a new upcoming quilt contest.

The contest includes three categories:
1) Artistic
2) Do the Most Good (Individual) and
3) Do the Most Good (Store Group or Guild)

One of contest requirements is that 85% of the fabric in the quilt tops must be from the new Komfort Kids line by Avlyn.

All Categories

The following apply to all categories:

  • Quilt top(s) must be made of at least 85% of fabrics from Avlyn's Komfort Kids line
  • Quilt(s) must be made of a top, backing and batting.
  • Quilt(s) must be received by Project Linus National Headquarters no later than September 1, 2009 for judging/tallying.
  • Quilts that smell of smoke or strong chemicals (including perfumed fabric softeners) or have pet hair on them cannot be accepted as they may produce severe allergic reactions in children. Unfortunately, washing these quilts does not always remove the problem. Please use a lint brush or roller on your quilts if they are covered with thread or lint. Don't attach buttons or decorative items to a quilt. They can be a choking hazard. Please make sure to read the additional rules for each category.

Artistic Category

The following apply only to the Artistic category:

  • Quilts in this category will be judged on originality, design, and workmanship. The quilt must be at least 36" x 45" or larger. Quilt design must be original; it can not use any existing or published pattern.
  • Prize: a cash prize of $250, an all-expense paid trip to Handiquilter's classroom in Utah for several days of instruction and quilting (a $1500 value), and an all-expense paid trip to International Quilt Market/Festival in Houston, a $900 value. The quilt (with complete instructions) will be featured in Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting Magazine.
